Summary of Learning Styles Dissertation

The dissertation outlines an attempt to apply learning styles research to technical documentation in an effort to make manuals a little more engaging for the reader. It is not suggesting that doing this will solve all the problems, just that it is an interesting area that has been neglected. On the way, the dissertation outlines two authoring schemes used in technical documentation - minimalism and Information Mapping™ - and gives a few reasons why they don't work too well.

Caution!
In the course of this work I often refer to types or styles, such as contemplative types or styles. This should not be taken to mean that people of a particular type learn exclusively by the corresponding style, only that that style has a greater influence than others. Individuals are likely to show signs of learning preferences associated with a mix of styles.
