La claviere is a tiny hamlet in the centre of France. I lived there for eight years, renovating a barn. It was meant to be my permanent home. I did most of the work myself except for walls and the roof. I had lots of space, lots to do, and a huge workshop. I had a veg patch, enough tools and plenty of energy. My neighbours, Claude and Marie-Jo, were lovely.
It was a kilometre from Les Herolles, the biggest monthly market in France, and a short distance from St Benoit du Sault, a medieval town, Montmorillon, a pleasant town, and in the middle of nowhere, which suited me perfectly.
I loved it there, but circumstances forced me to leave and I returned to England in 2011.
